The Battle of Britain started on August 8, 1940. The battle was between Luftwaffe (the German Air Force) and the British Royal Air Force (RAF). Britain sent many fighting and bombing planes. The ME109 and Sruka dive bombers led the way for Britain. To protect themselves, for the first time Britain used radar, anti-aircraft artiliary, and many other weapons. These things scrambled submarine spitfire. They also used civilian spotting posts. The things that I just talked about would contribute a lot to using its limited supplies to the best effect.

The Battle of Britain was non-stop. In the first ten days of the war there were 26 major attacks on Britain. During that time Luftwaffe lost 700 planes and the RAF lost only 160 planes. On August 30th Luftwaffe changed their plans of attack Luftwaffe decided to have more fighter planes and less slow bombers. Then during this period Luftwaffe lost another 560 planes and the RAF only lost another 220 planes. So even though Luftwaffe had changed their tactics, through these two periods Luftwaffe lost a whopping 1,260 planes to the RAF's 380 planes lost. Who do you think is doing better in the war.

On October 1940, the war had ended. The Battle of Britain had only lasted three months (aug. to oct.). Even though the British were outnumbered by the Germans throughout the war, the britishpulled out a gigantic win. The Battle of Britain gave Nazi Germany its first loss in World War 2, but it was a big one. Through the length of the battle Luftwaffe lost an unimaginable 2,300 planes while the RAF only lost 900 planes. By the numbers that I just gave you, who do you think should have won?
