Al 'Scarface' Capone

           Alfonso Capone was born in Naples and raised in Brooklyn New York. He was born in 1899 and died in 1947. Capone was pulled into the world of gangsters with the passing of the 18th amendment making the drinking,selling or buying of alcohol illegal. Despots over ownership of liquor shipments an property of night clubs where the main source of gang rivals. Capone's life of crime started with bootlegging and being part of the notorious 5 Points gang. In Manhattan he worked in Frankie Yale Brooklyn dive and the Hartford Inn as a bartender. But this was only the beginning for Capone.

           Capone got the notorious name of Scareface when bar tending one night. Capone insulted a young woman at a table he was waiting on at the inn. She was with a young man who happened to be her brother. The man immediately stood up and took out a knife. He cut 3 scars into Capone's cheek. Capone would carry the name and the scars the rest of his life. Capon then moved to chicago after 2 murders he committed in New York shortly after the bar fight. in chicago he planned to lay low as things cooled off in New York  In chicago Capone befriended Johnny Torrio and soon after meeting they became partners. Together they controlled some of the hottest spots in chicago including gambling clubs and saloons. But Torrio's life and rule of chicago came to an end after he was shot by a rival gang. It was Capone's chance to stand up and become boss. Capone was "The Big Fellow" as his outfit called him. It was estimated that Capone made $100,000,000 a year on income from his controllment of speakeasies, brothels, race and horse tracks, gambling houses breweries and night clubs. Capone Controlled Chicago's underworld.

           Capone was very sneaky and got away with the illegal crimes he committed. he did this like most gangsters did in the 1920's by bribing the authorities and public officials. Capone got away with many murders in his time that he ordered to be taken care of or even handled himself. He was a notorious gangster in chicago. He was even named chicago's " public enemy number one". he was even headed chicago's 28 worst criminal list. Capone is most known for his St. Valentines Day Massacre. On february 14, 1929. Capone sent his men to kill 7 gang members over a gang rivalry. Its said that his main target among the men was George Moran but they where all taken care of by Capone's men who pumped 150 bullets into his victims. Capone wisely had an alibi when summoned to court that he was in his Florida home during the massacre. The end of Capone's rein came in 1929 when Capone was convicted of income tax charges which sentenced Capone to 11 years in jail. he got off early in 1931. Capone retired after he was released to his florida home and ended his crime days in chicago. Capone later died in 1947.
