The days before D-day bad weather kept the fighting from happening. Finally on the morning of June 6th 1944, between the hours of 6:30 and 7:30am, the British, American, and Canadian armies of 135,000 men and 20,000 vehicles traveled by sea from England through the English Channel and landed in Normandy, France. "Opperation Overlord" was on. The troops landed on five beaches called Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. When the troops landed the Germans were already waiting for them.

Each beach had a battle and of the five of the five battles Omaha was the worst. As soldiers approached the beach many were shot in the water and on the beach itself. Most who were shot or wounded in the water drowned instantly because of the backpacks and equipment they were carrying. As researchers looked at this battle despite all the casualties it was an Allied force victory.
